Natural or Artificial Turf?

Do you hesitate whether to use a natural or artificial turf for your sports field? Here are some advantages and disadvantages of the two systems.

Natural lawn: used on large, professional playgrounds. Recently, technology reinforcing natural turf with synthetic fiber has been used. This is not a “hybrid system,” as it is sometimes imagined. It’s just a reinforced natural turf.

Maintaining a large grassy area is not easy. It must not only be regularly irrigated, but UV radiation also affects the grass growth. If your pitch is partially shaded during the day (e.g. by tribunes), the grass will grow unevenly.

Therefore, the playing area is illuminated by special panels. More recently, a new technology is used to separate the usable and unnecessary spectrum of UV radiation to avoid unnecessary heating of the turf. This is achieved by using special LED lamps.

It is no coincidence that in the home of best natural turfs, in the UK, the green keeper is one of the most respected and best paid sports club staff. A bit like a chef in a restaurant.

On the other hand, the artificial turf is practically maintenance-free for about 10 years. However, the type of artificial grass should be chosen correctly, otherwise it may prematurely wear out or be inadequate for the sport.

Another major advantage of artificial turf: it can be covered by an air dome (this is not possible with natural grass).

There are dozens of artificial grass types. Therefore, we recommend that you leave the selection to experts.
